David Want from Horsham is co-owner of JR Print in the Bishopric, which provides printing services across the UK.

How did you decide on this career?

I originally worked for Kodak in their print section, and 20 years ago the opportunity to purchase an existing local print business in my home town came up. I bought the business with my business partner – who is also called David - and 20 years on I still love what I do.

How does a normal day usually go?

There is no normal day really! We never know who will walk in for our print services, a supply of printer paper or envelopes, or what work will come through. We regularly print all sorts for a national business, several prestigious vineyards, local and national charities and of course the general public. We may be printing children’s artwork onto cards, business cards, posters or architect’s designs; but we could also be running limited edition prints for artists, or helping to create tailor made wedding stationery. Each day is different and often a great discovery too!

What gives you the most job satisfaction?

That has to be seeing the delight in our customers faces when they collect, or when we deliver, their printed items. I get a real buzz from being able to help businesses and individuals, especially when the results are all, or so much more, than they expected.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

My aim is that my business will still be Horsham’s preferred print supplier; and that I will continue to be excited and proud to still be winning tenders for both local and national contracts.

What do businesses need to do to be successful in these challenging times?
