Worthing pub reopens five months after suspected arson attack - Take a look inside

A Worthing pub, which was forced to close for five months after a fire, has reopened with a brand new look.

The Sussex Yeoman in Palatine Road, Goring, has officially reopened its doors to the public.

The family-friendly Hungry Horse pub – run by pub company and brewer Greene King – welcomed guests back on Tuesday, June 10.

“Following extensive repairs, the Sussex Yeoman now showcases a transformed interior with new hardwood flooring and modern furnishings to enhancing the dining experience for guests,” a Greene King spokesperson said.

"The pub has also installed a self-service coffee machine, providing customers with the chance to stay energised with free refills throughout the day.

“The pub boasts a thrilling playground for children to enjoy, and the exterior has been completely revamped with new garden furniture, fencing and a fresh lick of paint, creating a scenic spot for friends and families to relax outdoors and enjoy the summer sunshine. The toilets have also been refurbished to ensure a more modern look and feel.”

Emergency services were called to a report of a fire at the Hungry Horse pub, at about 5.20am on Sunday, January 12. No one was hurt but the fire ‘caused significant damage to the building’.

Sussex Police confirmed in January that detectives were treating the fire as deliberate and were carrying out enquiries. There have still been no arrests.

To celebrate the relaunch, loyal customer Terry High was invited to cut the ribbon, alongside West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Terry has been a regular visitor to the Sussex Yeoman pub for the last 20 years, and the fire service team ‘provided huge support’ to the pub following the fire.

Guests are invited to try the Sussex Yeoman’s new breakfast menu, with dishes including the Mighty Breakfast, Cornflake Chicken Burger and Frozen Smoothie Bowl. With a ‘wide range of options available’, there’s ‘something for everyone to enjoy’ throughout the morning.

Dave Morgan, general manager at the Sussex Yeoman, said: “Excitement has been building in the local community ahead of the Sussex Yeoman’s relaunch, and we are over the moon to be officially opening our doors to the public from June 10.

“The team has been working hard over the last few months to give the pub a brand-new lease of life, and with upgraded features including a modernised interior, an enhanced pub garden and a delicious new breakfast menu, we hope to return the Sussex Yeoman to its position as a central hub of the community.

"We can’t wait to welcome customers back to enjoy our offering throughout the summer and beyond.”
