Worthing store’s new community champion is having a big impact

Worthing’s Morrisons supermarket has a new community champion and she has been busy organising donations to say thank you to people who have helped during the coronavirus pandemic. Jo Easey said she had not realised how busy she would be in her new role but the reward was meeting some amazing people and making connections. A number of causes have been supported in the past few months and hampers have been delivered to places including the railway station, post office, police station, fire station and bus depot.

Jo said: “I have been out giving out hampers as they have been vital during the pandemic and even though it was only a small gesture, I could tell it meant a lot to be recognised. The community champion role is about identifying issues within the community we can help with and support, may it be donating to the local foodbank or in my case the local soup kitchen, and giving my time to them, too, not just donations. Normally, I would be arranging bucket collections, the use of our community space and school tours of the store but due to Covid-19 those have not been possible.”
