The land, on the corner of Burton Road and Pocock’s Road, went under the hammer at a Covent Garden venue with auctioneers Barnard Marcus on February 3.

Colin Belsey, Conservative councillor for Ratton, said, “I understand the land has been purchased by a local person. They want to keep the land as it is. They bought it to protect it for the community from what I can make out.”

Mr Belsey said the sale is still in progress and more information should become public when it is finalised.

This comes after residents in the area voiced their concerns to the Herald before the auction about the possible sale of the land.

Janice O’Connell, who lives in Pocock’s Road, previously told the Herald, “We can’t lose all of our green spaces in Eastbourne. I don’t want it. I feel quite upset actually, I can’t believe they are going to do away with a spare bit of green land.”
