The Estate wants to ensure that, once the current health crisis is brought under control, hard-working ICU nurses will have the opportunity to discover and explore the South Downs National Park.

Nights have been pledged at the Estate’s holiday cottage and lodge accommodation.

The arrangement has come about through a partnership with Nights On Us, an organisation which has sought to find 100,000 hotel beds for ICU nurses in the next 12 months across the length and breadth of the UK.

Jonathan Russell, chief executive of the Cowdray Estate, said: “When we heard about Nights On Us and what they were trying to achieve, the initiative really resonated with us at Cowdray.

“Lord and Lady Cowdray wanted to show our appreciation to the NHS staff who really have been caring for the worst effected corona virus patients and putting their own health at risk to do so.

“We have seen that pulling together as a nation can be very powerful and this initiative is based on those principles.

“Nights On Us are ambitious in their plans and anything we can do to support this is something we are very proud to be part of.

“We can’t wait to welcome these heroes, with so many varied activities on offer across the Estate, we feel we are incredibly fortunate be able to make their stay a memorable one.”

The Cowdray Estate hopes to encourage other members of the hospitality industry in the South Downs to unite and follow suit.
