Planning permission to add two floors to 14-29 Brassey Parade was approved back in 2018 but now the plan has been changed to add just one additional storey.

The original plan was for 29 residential flats within the first, second and third floors, while keeping the retail units on the ground floor and seven existing residential flats on the first floor.

Scaffolding was recently removed from the parade of shops and according to planning committee chairman and Hampden Park councillor Jim Murray, this was taken down to get rid of a concrete canopy to allow works for the full build to take place.

Mr Murray said, “Works will commence soon on the refurbishment and addition of the additional storey.”

Councillor Murray spoke in favour of the original plan back in 2018 and welcomed the potential of new studio flats as they suit young people looking for their first home.

Despite Mr Murray’s support there were concerns about the original project in regards to the size and design of the building, as well as its potential impact on traffic and parking in the area.
