According to the design and access statement submitted with a planning application to Eastbourne Borough Council, the plans would create 18 ‘contemporary’ houses at the Ocklynge chalk pit site.

The plans say there will be a mix of one to three-bedroom houses with adjoining parking, ranging from two to four storey and featuring roof gardens.

As well as this, two existing kiln cottages will be refurbished.

The pit is accessed off Willingdon Road, and would connect the existing access road to the current Coppice Court Care Home. Due to the environment and surface of the land the development will be contained within the base of the quarry - totalling 4,700 sq meters according to the plans.

The plans have raised questions around privacy for residents due to the proposed height of the houses and a nature walk giving access to the back of some of the existing properties.
