The cash injection means that engineers have been able to install new remotely-controlled switches.

These switches will speed up the reconnection of electricity supplies in the occasional event of a power cut.

Richard Coates, project manager at UK Power Networks said, “Power interruptions don’t happen very often, and this investment means that if they do occur, we will have the ability to remotely reconnect supplies as quickly as possible.

“In the past customers would have remained off supply until our engineer travelled to site to manually restore power supplies, so this improvement will save time and increase network resilience.

“This project is one of several improvements to the electricity network being carried out across the south east this year in order to maintain reliable power supplies for the local communities we serve.”

Four remotely controlled switch units will replace the manually-operated equipment. Two were replaced this summer, and the remaining two will be replaced next year.
