An Eastbourne town centre pub is going to be knocked down to make way for housing.

Bar Coda on Langney Road, formerly the Rose and Crown pub and Black Sheep in recent years, is set to be demolished for housing, according to documents on the Eastbourne Borough Council website.

Applications were submitted back in 2017 by Frontside Developments Ltd with the plan of a four-storey block of flats going up in its place. At the time, developers said ‘considerable improvement and investment would be needed for the bar to continue as a viable business’.

In December last year plans were approved for the demolition under the condition that archaeological work was carried out and findings recorded first. This work was carried out last month and the archaeological team will review details over the next two weeks to make the final decision.

Demolition will take place once this decision has been made.
