Greener future for Littlehampton firm

A BRIGHT future lies ahead for a Littlehampton company after becoming one of the most energy efficient businesses in the area.

International agricultural developer Becker Underwood Limited, this week completed its new, 29 kilowatt solar panel system at their facility in Harwood Road.

About 120 solar panels have been installed which will have capacity of about 25,000 kilowatt hours per year. It has also bought a pair of new, energy-efficient air compressors which, combined with the panels, could save the company about £20,000 a year.

Production manager John Godliman said: “Since their installation, the panels have been producing an average of three per cent of the site’s electricity requirements. In high summer, however, this figure is expected to rise to around 20 percent.

“We have also invested in two new air compressors, which are estimated to decrease energy usage by 30 per cent, compared to the old compressors. This is estimated to save up to £20,000 per year.”

Becker Underwood has also switched energy suppliers to Good Energy, the only UK electricity company to supply 100 per cent renewable power.

All of this will help to reduce the firm’s C02 emissions by 552 metric tonnes per year.
