“We will be reopening with a fantastic range of offers and discounts across all of our customers’ favourite brands and products. Stocks are limited and expected to sell out quickly so customers should visit their nearest store quickly to avoid disappointment.

“We are very grateful for the efforts of our staff who have worked so hard throughout the most difficult of circumstances to keep the business trading.”

Following the store closures Debenhams will operate as an online-only business run by its new owner the online fashion retailer Bohoo.

The Debenhams building in Hastings has also been sold with plans for it to be converted into mixed use.

Councillor Colin Fitzgerald, lead councillor for regeneration, culture and tourism, at the time said: “Regarding the Hastings site we are aware that this been recently sold. We understand with a view to converting the site to mixed use.

“We stand ready to support the new owners where we can to ensure the success of the site going forwards. We also understand that employment will continue after the lockdown restrictions have been lifted, while the store reopens to liquidate stock and to get the store ready.”
