Around 50 people queued outside the store before the grand opening on Thursday (February 8), to get their hands on some sugary treats.

The first in line, Jack Swain, a student living in the city, won a year’s supply of doughnuts. He arrived at the shopping centre at 6.15am.

Not only did Jack bag himself a delicious prize, the first dozen in the queue also picked up exclusive goody bags, and on the spot prizes were dished out to customers throughout the day.

Neil Williamson, operations director at Krispy Kreme, said: “What a brilliant morning we’ve had, it was great to spread the joy of Krispy Kreme even further throughout the city. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who came down, the welcome and support that we received from our Brighton fans has been brilliant – long may it continue!”

Krispy Kreme also has a store in North Street, Brighton.

Mark Buchanan-Smith, Churchill Square centre director, said: “I’m delighted that Krispy Kreme is now open at Churchill Square. It’s a hugely popular brand and is a great addition to the ever-growing offering at the centre and I’m certain that it will prove a real hit with shoppers. It’s great that the opening of the new store has created a number of new jobs for the city and I’m looking forward to getting to know the team from Krispy Kreme over the coming weeks and months.”
