NewRiver hopes for ‘further clarity’ soon on next stages of Burgess Hill regeneration

Developer NewRiver has told the Mid Sussex Times that it hopes for ‘further clarity’ on the next stages of its Burgess Hill town centre regeneration scheme in the coming months.

Justin Thomas director at NewRiver, said the developer remained committed to the town centre and is looking forward to sharing further updates when it is in a position to do so.

“In September 2020 Mid Sussex District Council approved our plans for the regeneration of the town centre,” said Justin.

“The proposals, which were shaped with the local community and businesses, will reinvigorate the town centre, creating a place with a different offer.”

Justin said that during the past year retail and town centres had faced a period of ‘unprecedented change and challenge’.

“Our focus has been and continues to be on holding regular conversations with all parties as next steps for the future of The Martlets Shopping Centre are mapped out,” he added.

Mid Sussex District Council approved amended plans for NewRiver’s £65million regeneration of Burgess Hill town centre on September 3.

Members of the planning committee voted unanimously to approve the redevelopment of The Martlets shopping centre, which includes 172 flats, a ten-screen cinema, bowling alley, gym and hotel.
