Open for Business: Let's keep supporting our local firms

The next two weeks will be vital for many of our much-loved local businesses as families finish their Christmas shopping in what is traditionally the busiest time of the year for the high street.

In what has been a tough year for most industries, our local shops, restaurants, food producers and services need your help more than ever.

Many have found innovative new ways of working during the pandemic, with lockdowns and Government restrictions meaning many have been forced to change the way they do business.

You’ll find details on what our local businesses have to offer and how they have innovated in this week's listings, in our fourth and final Open for Business pull-out sponsored by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. The campaign has given businesses the opportunity to promote their services for free.

Melanie Savill from The Sunshine Shed, said: “The publicity supported by Rolls Royce and the Chichester Observer has been invaluable to local independent businesses. It’s been great to see residents out supporting the high street again and even venturing out for late night shopping last week.

“Draper’s Yard is a hidden gem in Chichester and the independent businesses in the yard are a welcoming bunch and always happy to see new customers buying unusual and ethical gifts.”

The Open for Business campaign would not have been possible without the support of Chichester’s very own Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, the world’s most prestigious car manufacturing company.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said: “Rolls-Royce is a global company, but we’re also very much part of our community here in Chichester.

“We’re delighted to have this opportunity to help local businesses through this support; it’s something we did during the first national lockdown earlier this year, and felt it was right to do it again this time.

“We also feel it’s extremely important to support the Observer, which provides an essential service at a time when accurate, timely information and a sense of solidarity with our neighbours are absolutely vital.”

Each week in this Open for Business pull-out, we have urged you to think about how you can support the small businesses in your area, in ways that keep you and your families safe. We convey that same message in our final edition, and we’ll continue to bang the drum for those companies which are open for business in your Observer.
