The flagship BHS store in Priory Meadow Shopping Centre was shut down on August 20, after the retailer collapsed in April.

Ever since many people have been calling for Primark to take its place along with a few others, but Coral Neal has taken the extra step to campaign for it by setting up the petition yesterday (Thursday, September 22).

Under ‘Why is this important?’ the creator has written: “The reason I thinks it’s important is because the people who lost their jobs in BHS could be re employed for Primark. Also we love Primark.”

Danielle B wrote in the comments after signing, “Because I think Primark would actually do well in Hastings and maybe bring more people to come here coz everyone loves a Primark.”

A Primark spokesman said the store does not comment on speculation or plans regarding new store openings.

BHS was offering up to 80 per cent off across the store before closing its Priory Meadow store.

The 88-year-old department store’s collapse affected 11,000 jobs, 22,000 pensions, sparked a parliamentary inquiry and left its high-profile former owners potentially facing a criminal investigation.

Retail billionaire Sir Philip Green has borne the brunt of the public fallout, having been branded the ‘unacceptable face of capitalism’ by MPs.

Sir Philip owned BHS for 15 years before selling it to serial bankrupt Dominic Chappell for £1 in 2015.

The Arcadia owner, which also runs Topshop and Dorothy Perkins, came under fire for taking more than £400m in dividends from the chain, leaving it with a £571m pension deficit.
