£1million boost for Littlehampton company

THREE years after a Littlehampton business ran up losses of £334,000, its new owners have celebrated the installation of high-tech equipment costing almost £1m.

The £900,000 investment at AJS Labels, on the Lineside Industrial Estate, underlines the company’s remarkable turn-around since its takeover by Jayne and Andrew Scrimgeour in April, 2009.

Littlehampton’s MP Nick Gibb visited the company then, and returned on Friday to commission the new digital finishing line and digital print engine.

He congratulated the staff for working with Jayne and Andrew in turning round the loss-making company and in making AJS the success it is, not only in Littlehampton but also nationally, having just won the BPIF’s  (British Printing  Industry Federation) highly coveted Company of the Year, 2011 award.

Andrew and Jayne told Mr Gibb their success had been built around a return to basics approach in the first year, with the two directors re-engaging with the staff and customers.

Focusing on customer service and team work had enabled the company to return to profit and throughout the second year further improvements led to significant sales growth .

By the start of 2011 enough confidence returned to make this the year the company began to make major investments, with a new management information system soon to be installed, completing the programme.

Andrew said the investment in the new equipment, coupled with the outstanding commitment from the staff, would put the company in a prime position for success in the future.
