Sadness as unique Chichester shop announces closure

The owner of a unique Chichester city centre shop has announced it will be closing.

Present Surprise in South Street made the sad announcement on social media with the owners saying they would be taking a much-deserved retirement .

The news is sad for South Street but a happy move for the Dave, Adrian and ‘the boss’, Edward the dog, who will enjoy long dog walks and some travelling in their retirement.

While no closing date has been set, Present Surprise has a huge 50 per cent off sale before shutting its doors in early September.

A statement from the owners read: "It has been a complete pleasure having our unique store in Chichester and making so many friends over the years.

“If we hadn’t we wouldn’t have met so many lovely people. We would like to thank all of our staff over the years and especially Terry, who has been with us the past seven.

"But now its time to retire, Go on long dog walks with the boss Edward and generally chill out a bit whilst doing some travelling. We hope the good people of Chichester will continue to support their local high street and we wish everyone of our customers a fabulous future.

"We now have 50 per cent off all cards and over 50 per cent off all gifts until we close at the beginning of September. Chichester is a beautiful city filled with exciting shops and as we keep on saying its so much more than a coffee city. Explore and have fun.

"Best wishes Dave, Adrian and the boss Edward the dog.”

Customers and friends showed their thanks on Facebook with a number of messages congratulating the pair on their well-deserved retirement adding that the shop will be missed on the high street.

One commented: “Very pleased that you're pleased with your decision. Good luck with the sales and best wishes for your next adventure.”
