School harnesses power of the sun

Energy from the sun will help power a Horsham primary school as solar panels were installed thanks to the county council and a South East firm.

Southern Solar, which installs solar panels across the South East of England, fixed the Solar PV installation on to the roof of Holbrook Primary School, off North Heath Lane in Horsham.

By harnessing the power of the sun the school will reduce its carbon footprint by around 36,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Howard Johns, managing director of Southern Solar, said: “Schools and public buildings use a huge amount of energy and solar energy systems are perfect for reducing dependence on increasingly expensive fossil fuels.”

Deborah Moss, headteacher at the School, added: “Not only will the school be saving on electricity bills, but we plan to use the system as a teaching resource with KS2 pupils.

“If other schools are thinking of a similar scheme, they can be assured a high quality service from Southern Solar.”
