Support needed for Rose Green post office

SUB-postmaster Mac Patel has urged Rose Green residents to back his business or see it shut.

Mr Patel was joined by Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP Nick Gibb to re-inforce his message to those who live around Rose Green Post Office.

Mr Patel has won regional awards for his service but has seen his number of customers more than halve in a few years as services move online.

“I am self-employed and I get paid per transaction in the post office. Unfortunately, the post office transactions have been steadily declining for a number of years as people are using post offices less.

“The second part of my income is from the retail side of my business. This is where I ask for your support to supplement the loss of the post office income,” he said.

He asked the some 1,500 customers served in the post office weekly to spend at least £1, or £1 extra, in the shop when they visited to help to secure the business’s future.

Mr Gibb said: “Rose Green needs its post office. Without it, this wonderful enclave of shops would suffer and many people who rely on its services would be hugely inconvenienced.”
