Total of Littlehampton community hospital claim revealed

DEVELOPERS are claiming more in damages for not being allowed to build the new community hospital at Littlehampton than the original estimated construction costs.

Guildhouse UK Ltd is suing West Sussex Primary Care Trust (PCT) for a total of £8,579,756 for breach of contract, according to court papers obtained this week by the Gazette.

When Guildhouse won the bidding competition to build the hospital, in 2005, health chiefs at the time estimated the value of the contract at £8million.

A spokesman for NHS West Sussex, which has succeeded the PCT running health services at the time, said: “NHS West Sussex has been notified of a legal claim against the PCT in relation to a property scheme that did not proceed.

“The PCT has sought legal advice and is defending the claim

“As the claim is being defended it is not appropriate at this stage to provide an estimate of any contingent liability.”
