Board chairman Raof Daud said following ‘a lot of investment’ in areas such as the university tech park, Oldlands Farm and Butlin’s, there now will be a ‘strong emphasis’ on the town centre.

It comes after the board’s adviser David Myers announced last week that he would be stepping down, paving the way for someone new to assume the role.

“We can’t accept everyone so they have to have a real interest in the economic and social development of Bognor Regis.”

After six years in the job, Mr Myers has decided not to renew his contract as board adviser when it finishes at the end of April.

He said: “It has been a privilege to work with the board’s partners to move forward important investments in Bognor Regis.

“These range from the University of Chichester’s business school and technology park, Butlin’s three hotels and Water Park,

“[They also include] the Oldlands Farm and Saltbox employment sites which have brought new job opportunities and of course the Rolls-Royce Motors Logistics facility.”

The Bognor Regis Regeneration Board, which was established in 2007, brings together leading  representatives from the key public, private and community stakeholders.

According to the board, David has had a ‘long involvement’ initially representing Bognor Regis Ltd, ‘on behalf of the major businesses in the town’.

Board chairman Raof Daud said: “We are very sorry that David will be leaving the board after six years.

“He has been able to bring his extensive business experience, knowledge and contacts to the board in pursuit of its objective to make Bognor Regis a great place to work, live and enjoy.

“He has been a firm advocate of the public private partnership approach which has facilitated and encouraged a conducive environment for investment in Bognor Regis.

“Particular credit should go to David for his success in widening membership of the board, recruiting new members and improving the board’s sustainability.”

Mr Daud said the board is keen to recruit an individual who has had previous senior leadership experience.

He added: “In this part-time role, [they will] be able to give practical and strategic guidance to the board.”
