UPDATE: Horsham Thomas Cook jobs under threat - Dreams store saved

More Horsham workers face an uncertain future as various Thomas Cook stores are set to be closed across the country.

However, Horsham’s Dreams bed and furniture store has been saved as part of a rescue package.

Thomas Cook, which has a shop in West Street, has entered a 90-day consultation process with a number of its UK employees.

The firm says the consultation will consider plans to:

Close 195 high street stores, whilst retaining 874 outlets on British high streets. It also proposes a number of changes to the management of core stores and certain roles within the large store network.

Change some terms and conditions in order to make further efficiencies, thereby safeguarding additional roles.

Thomas Cook currently employees 15,500 people in the UK and it is anticipated that approximately 2,500 full-time roles will go if the proposed changes go ahead.

It is uncertain at this stage whether the Horsham shop will be affected and it continues to trade as normal.
