Vandals branded ‘little idiots’ for destroying Horsham street art

And the destruction has left many of the artists fuming - because their work was destined to be sold to raise funds for local charities.

One of the artists - Horsham’s ‘King of the Can’ Tony Eadie - has branded those responsible as ‘little idiots.’

The artworks, opposite the Black Jug pub in North Street, were created last year as part of a Horsham Year of Culture project known as Watch This Space.

Tony, who previously created a mural for the Butterfly Project in Horsham, had planned to auction his works to raise money for the children’s hospice Chestnut Tree House.

He said: “Some little idiots from our town have defaced and ruined some of my work and other artists but what they don’t understand is when this building is complete, the artwork is coming down and being auctioned off to raise money for our individual charities we have chosen,”

But, he added, “now some of the paintings are useless and ruined.”

Tony’s artwork included one on a Caribbean theme with a palm tree and pirate ship, a ‘forbidden green eye’ with pyramids, a two-tier cascading waterfall and one with a colourful pink-purple cloud effect.

Altogether, 20 artists were involved in the project.
