Croudace Homes wants to build new homes at the site, alongside a new community space.

The land at Broyle Gate Farm was allocated for various community uses as part of the Lewes District Local Plan 2003.

However, in the 18 years since the allocation was adopted, the developer said there had been ‘no significant progress’ delivering the original vision.

Croudace holds a long-term interest in the land and is planning to launch a community consultation on its proposals soon.

It wants residents, businesses, and interest groups to voice their thoughts on what they would like to see come forward on the new community space at the site.

A spokesman for Croudace Homes said: “We are committed to delivering new community facilities on this site to help meet the needs of Ringmer village and want to know the local community’s thoughts on what should come forward.”

Croudace has already begun discussions with the Ringmer Area Community Land Trust about gifting the community land to them to manage in perpetuity, with the benefit of a large lump-sum payment to support the project.

Arrangements have already been made to meet the relevant stakeholders of the site to give them an opportunity to discuss their thoughts for the early proposals, before a virtual exhibition is opened to the public.

The spokesman said: “The new housing that Croudace want to bring forward on the other part of the site will encapsulate the ethos of its brand and will be something that the village can be proud of.”

Croudace hopes to submit a planning application in the coming months, following a full review of the feedback it receives.
