'We still need to support our independent businesses'

With more and more residents working from home and self isolating fewer people are shopping on the high street - something which is of growing concern to businesses throughout community.

Many bars and shops have taken steps to change how they do business.

The Hornet Alehouse micro-pub in Chichester will only offer takeaway beer while Gaterell's Butchers has teamed up with two other businesses in Felpham to keep their businesses running.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced yesterday it would be stopping work on its production line for the next two weeks and fast-food chain McDonald's is suspending its dine-in service.

She said: "We just all need to stick together - it is a horrible time for businesses. We are doing as many posts as we can for people to try and help to promote businesses.

"Obviously it is a really hard message as we also need to make sure that we keep healthy. As long as we are keeping ourselves safe.

"Small businesses are really really going to suffer. It's a very very scary time."

Victoria asked for people to continue in trying to shop locally and to remember to keep supporting local businesses.

She said she also understood that it was very important for people to make sure they stay safe while doing so.

"We have all got to help each other out."

A fundraiser has also been set up by Victoria and other business owners with the aim of supporting independent pubs bars and restaurants who are struggling as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
