According to her husband Terry, Anne had returned to the slopes after battling rheumatoid arthritis with medication.

The couple, who had visited Lake Louise and Banff, were in their third week of the trip.

Matt Mosteller, spokesman at the resort, said: “Our thoughts, prayers and care go out to the family and friends. Our team is deeply saddened by the news.”

The British Columbia Coroners Service, which carried out the postmortem, said: “On February 9, 2016, they were skiing at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort when, in the late morning hours, Mrs Woods was involved in a collision with a snowboarder. She was airlifted to Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, but succumbed there to her injuries on February 11. The British Columbia Coroners Service, Alberta Medical Examiner’s Office and Royal Canadian Mounted Police continue to investigate this death. Mrs Woods’s family has been notified of her death.”
