At the forefront of the updated Soul range will be the Soul 1.6 T-GDi model. This gains the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine as seen in the Cee’d GT, although Kia has stopped short of adding any GT badges to this Soul.

However, the model will stand out from the rest of the range thanks to new bumpers, twin exhausts, some red highlighting and special 18in wheels. The cabin has its own colour scheme which features black and orange in a combination of leather and cloth.

The driver also has the benefit of a drive mode selector, offering three modes which are linked to the seven-speed auto transmission, and also to the steering. The brakes have been upgraded to cope with the performance.

With 201bhp, this engine should allow the Soul a 0-62mph time of 7.5sec, on the way to 122mph. Economy and emissions will be a little worse than the Cee’d GT thanks to the less aerodynamic shape of the Soul.

The whole Soul range has been upgraded, with a choice of infotainment screens from 5in to 8in, along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. There is also a range of other minor updates to trim and design, as well as safety and practicality, like a rear USB port.

The Soul T-GDi should be on sale by the end of 2016 at a price of £21,500 or so.
