Check out the six most stylish coupés on the market

We’re told that looks aren’t everything. Well, that’s only just about true of the coupé market. The looks count for a great deal, as owners want to display an image of cool, without totally sacrificing a level of practicality. But who best manages to turn heads and live in reality at the same time? We count down our favourite half dozen.

BMW 4 Series 420d SE

While it looks swoopy smart, the 4 Series coupé is actually really rather practical. Behind the lines, there is room for four. Much of the cabin is taken from the 3 Series, including the unbeatable iDrive infotainment system.

Seat Leon SC 1.4 EcoTSI 150 FR

The lines are a progression from the standard three-door hatchback, and they’re joined by a really smart, practical, stylish cabin. Given the image, we’d avoid the somewhat rowdy 1.6-litre diesel engine choice and go for the 1.4-litre petrol engine. That comes with the top FR trim, giving you all you need, including impressively low fuel consumption.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé S500

We all know that the S-Class cabin is one of the best places to be, and that is in no way diminished in the coupé version. All that luxury and equipment fits in neatly and, fitted with the 4.7-litre V8, you’re looking at the perfect combination to turn heads from one end of a continent to the other.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé C 220 AMG Line auto

The second Mercedes on the list is based on the C-Class saloon, and that’s a tremendous basis for a coupé. The cabin is gorgeously styled and put together, and this Merc makes a very convincing alternative to the BMW 4 Series Coupé. It actually works better with a diesel engine and, if you have the budget, the optional air suspension.

Audi A5 3.0 TDI 218 quattro

If the cabin quality is really important to you, then the earlier entries from Mercedes and BMW will impress, but none of them can impress as much as the Audi interior. It’s just the best put together cabin there is. Add in swooping lines that give huge access to the boot, and a strong set of engines, and you have a great combination of practicality with style and class.

Audi TT 2.0 TFSI 230 Sport

The number one coupé currently on the market, for us, is the Audi TT. What Car? obviously feel the same as they have given the Audi TT the title of Coupé of the Year not once but three years running. For sensible money, and every-day practicality, the Audi TT gives you an unbeatable coupé experience.
