Thank you for taking the time to read this week’s Bognor Regis Briefing.

I hope many of you managed to visit the ‘Puppy Love’ event, organised by the Bognor Regis Carnival Association last weekend.

It was a wonderful event, one which the Town Crier and I, as dog lovers, were so excited to have been invited to. A whole day, in the sunshine, celebrating our four-legged friends - what could be better! Congratulations to all involved in bringing this event to West Park. I certainly hope this may return in the future!

The celebrations keep going on Sunday, with more live music and DJ sets, food stalls a licensed bar and scooters are welcome all day! Both days are free to attend, so do go along to support the fantastic work of Bognorphenia CIC, who provide support, mentoring and performance opportunities for local young people.

Some of you may have seen this week that West Sussex County Council have released a questionnaire, regarding the recent flooding events which affected many parts of the country.

If you would like to take part in the questionnaire, providing detailed information on the affects in your area of Storm Ciaran during November 2023 and/or Storm Kathleen in April 2024, then visit the West Sussex County Council website.

If you would prefer a hard copy of the questionnaire, then please email West Sussex County Council: [email protected]. The closing date for comments is Sunday, September 15.

It's hard to believe that autumn is fast approaching. In readiness for the colder weather, West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service are running a series of free electric blanket testing sessions for residents in October. Faulty electric blankets are a common cause of fire in the home.

Last year 36% of the blankets tested by the service were defective and posed a serious risk of starting a fire. Regular testing is recommended for blankets over two years old to ensure they are still safe to use. Blankets over ten years old should be replaced.

A session is being held on Tuesday, October 1 at Bognor Fire Station, West Meads Drive, Bognor Regis, PO21 5TB, by appointment only. Residents can book a free appointment to have their blanket tested by calling 0345 872 9719.

With energy prices still at a high, many will be understandably worried about heating their homes during the colder months. If this is something that resounds with you, then you may well be eligible for funding or grants to make your home more energy efficient.
