Last Saturday The Ewhurst and Staplecross Bonfire took place, the day had been patchy with rain but the evening was fine.
Around 28 Bonfire Societies took part someone said, and about 700 people in the parade. Amazing for a small village!

Hide AdWe stood opposite the entrance to the field and had a good view towards Staplecross as well as along the road towards Cripps Corner. The flickering fire danced on the end of poles as the parade began, at one point half of the parade were going out of the village and the other leaving the pub.
The dancing lights stretched in both directions as far as you could see it was terrific. It always is a wait for their return but when they did, they surrounded the bonfire five or six, maybe more, deep. The Fireworks as usual were brilliant and beautiful lights rained down from the sky.
There was a gentleman standing next to me with his phone on video, there was a smile on his face as with most of us. At the end he turned to me and said ‘that was amazing’ ‘Yes it was,’ I replied. It took a while to leave the field as there were hundreds of spectators as well.
Well done to all who organised the event. We sadly missed them all last year as we were on holiday but it is good to go to an organised event as it is safe for families. I know they are not popular with people with pets but we leave our dog with the radio on and she was calm and asleep when we returned.
