Chichester care home celebrates National Care Home Open Week with VIP guests

Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex, Reverend Rupert Toovey and former Mayor of Chichester, Richard Plowman were VIP guests at Lakeview Grange care home in Chichester to celebrate National Care Home Open Week.

To mark the occasion, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant planted a King Charles rose bush in the care home’s beautiful garden.

“We were delighted to welcome our VIP guests, Reverend Rupert Toovey and Richard Plowman to Lakeview Grange, to show them our home and talk to them about all the wonderful community initiatives that our residents get involved with.

"Our residents really enjoyed meeting them and, in preparation for their visit, took great pride in preparing beautiful floral table arrangements. We all had a wonderful event, celebrating our focus on providing the very best care in a stunning environment.”

Reverend Rupert Toovey, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex, said: “The theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week is ‘Open Doors, Open Hearts’ and you have certainly shown how you create a warm, friendly and family atmosphere at Lakeview Grange, showing kindness to everyone.”

Jennifer Turner, the first resident at Lakeview Grange said, “The whole afternoon was very friendly with lots of conversation about how happy everyone was to be living at Lakeview Grange. The staff were amazing and food, just wonderful.”

Lakeview Grange, which opened in February 2023, has built strong links with the local community through its wide-ranging activities programme, organised by Activities Co-ordinator, Mary Oliver. Residents have been involved with intergenerational initiatives with local schools, taken on trips to the local art club at Sage House, and have enjoyed talks from local artists, historians and poets. Richard Plowman, former Mayor of Chichester, will be returning to Lakeview Grange over the coming weeks to give a talk about Japanese Gardens.
