Royal Voluntary Service Platinum Champion Lord Brett McLean says that the annual volunteers week campaign which ran from the 2nd to 8th June has been a phenomenal success.
Over 14.2 million people formally volunteered across the United Kingdom last month which equates to an incredible £4.6 Billion in productivity gain across the United Kingdom during 2024, which was provided by just over 25 million volunteers last year who added value to their communities.
Her Majesty Queen Camilla said " Volunteers are the backbone of our country."
Platinum Champion Lord Brett McLean said " Volunteers are the heartbeat of our communities, they have pivotal roles to perform through their various volunteering roles, whether it's working in a hospital or a charity shop, to litter picking in the gardens or beaches, to visiting a friend or neighbour for a chat over a cuppa, their contribution is greatly appreciated and recognised."
Residents in Bexhill and Hastings witnessed a couple of examples of how volunteers have made a positive contribution to their communities such as the grand opening of the Bexhill Beach Garden last Sunday during the national Volunteers Week campaign and Hastings Lions donation of £25,000 to the Kent Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance charity so the organisation could purchase an additional rapid response vehicle.
