Lifts, Laughs, and Legends: Rebel Rebel’s Hallowe'en 'Day of the Deadlift' raises spirits and funds

When it comes to Hallowe'en, Rebel Rebel knows how to put a serious twist on spooky fun.

This past Saturday, the Eastbourne gym, recently crowned Best Gym of 2023 and 2024, hosted its third annual “Day of the Deadlift” charity party. With fancy dress, a live DJ, and a bar in full swing, it was an event to remember, blending the gym’s iconic fitness focus with a festive Halloween bash.

The night’s centerpiece? A giant cage where gym-goers and party enthusiasts tested their strength in a deadlift competition like no other. Each competitor had three attempts to hit their maximum lift – but there was a twist. Only those in costume were allowed to enter, and the award wasn’t just for the heaviest lift. The best-dressed lifter took home the ultimate prize!

Graham, dressed as a Jamaican bobsleigh Olympian from the movie Cool Runnings, clinched the title for the best costume in the cage, while Kelly, who impressed in the crowd as Teen Wolf with a basketball in hand, snagged best-dressed spectator. The competition was judged by local legend and powerlifting coach Delroy McQueen

The gym also hosted a lively raffle to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald Housing Charity, with prizes donated by local businesses and offerings like wine and other goodies. With each ticket purchased, partygoers contributed to an essential cause, supporting families in need of temporary housing near hospitals.

“This was our best year yet!” beamed Rebel Rebel owner Emma. “With the bar set high for the cash prize, the fancy dress costumes were incredible. We had a big group of athletes ranging from 17 to 60, making it such a fun and inclusive night. The building was packed, the cheering was nonstop, and the energy was electric! We’re already excited for next year.”

The night wouldn’t have been complete without the sounds from local DJ Kosek, who kept the beats flowing, and commentary from Rebel Rebel’s own Adrian, whose energy kept the crowd hyped and the competition fierce.
