Members expected one speaker at the last meeting of Rose Green W.I and were delighted when Lucile Simone arrived, accompanied by three other members of the Red Cross Emergency Response Team. Brandon Henry-Stanley, David Dudley and Andrew Neore are all volunteers who work with Lucile.

Lucile explained that the Response team helped members of the public in times of emergency, from house fires and flooding to power, gas or water outages across the UK. It is also part of the largest humanitarian organisation across the world.

The team arrived with two vehicles, which they parked in the nearby car park. A comfortable camper where people could take refuge, be given tea and treated for shock. The other vehicle was a well equipped truck, containing a wide variety of items. Blankets and clothing like sweat tops and trousers were ready to be distributed. Members were astonished to see how much was available to help people in crisis.

The team is based at the Bognor Fire Station where the vehicles are stored. There is always a member of the team on duty and the other volunteers are alerted, and come straight away.

After refreshments were served, The President, Cheryl Packham informed members of West Sussex Federation news and spoke about further activities available for members to enjoy.
