A project to transform the station master’s garden is taking shape at the Bluebell Railway in Uckfield, helped by local power workers.

Eight UK Power Networks’ staff helped prepare flower beds for new planting, to create a peaceful spot where the railway charity’s volunteers can take a break.

The team gave their time through Donate a Day, which gives employees two days a year to volunteer with local charities and community groups.

“We re-established the flower beds, dug out stubborn weeds and cut back the hedges. The area will be planted up and turned into a garden for volunteers.

“We had a brilliant day. It was great to take part in a team event that supports the heritage railway.”

Charles Melton, chair of the Friends of Sheffield Park Group at The Bluebell Railway, said: “The fantastic work the team did to renovate our rather sorry-looking station master’s garden was transformational, and we are so grateful for the hard work they all put in.”
