The school said following all the anguish caused by Ofqual’s algorithm, the Department for Education’s decision to use Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs) instead of calculated grades was greeted with relief by many a staff member, who had spent a great deal of time in May and June assessing all the evidence they had on each pupil to predict the likely outcome of each pupil sitting the exam in their subject.

The school said its trend is year-on-year improvement and this year was no exception.

Doreen Cronin, principal, said she was very happy with the Government decision to use CAGs, having every confidence in the integrity of her staff and their ability to predict realistic, accurate grades.

But she added she was disappointed this year’s group did not have the opportunity to shine in taking the GCSE examinations.

She said: “I want to place on record my congratulations to the pupils and staff for all their endeavours over the GCSE courses and now wish Year 11 even greater success and happiness as they pursue their new courses at sixth forms and colleges.

“I have no doubt that they will all go on to achieve great things, making an impact on society as well as accountability measures.

“It has been a challenging time for Year 11 but I am confident that they will not allow the ‘lost learning’ to hold them back.

“I would also like to thank parents/carers for all their support motivating and encouraging the pupils to be their best selves throughout their time at the school.”
