The girls-only Roedean School in Brighton has been ranked the tenth most expensive in the country, with boarding fees costing £15,680 per term and £47,040 per year.

PoundToy estimates it would take a household income of at least £88,483 in order to be able to afford a spot at the school.

Roedean School is more expensive to attend than both Eton and Harrow, which have produced 33 former Prime Ministers, including the current incumbent Boris Johnson, and are ranked in 25th and 26th place respectively – both charging just over £14,000 per term.

Top of the list was co-educational Cherwell College Oxford in Oxford, which charges £19,500 in boarding fees a term and £58,500 a year.

The locations of the most expensive boarding schools are concentrated in the south of England, according to PoundToy, with all but one of the top thirty most expensive being located in that area.
