Brighton Dome takes over the running of youth music service

East Sussex County Council awarded Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival a contract to manage East Sussex Music which provides thousands of young people a week with music lessons and engages them in events like SoundCity.

The group will also be the main partner for the East Sussex Music Education Hub.

The organisation provides music lessons and activities for more than 7,000 children and young people in East Sussex.

The partnership is part of the Dome’s commitment to deliver music education to children and young people across the county.

Andrew Comben, chief executive of the Dome, said: “We are delighted to welcome East Sussex Music as part of our arts education provision.

“By operating collectively, access to creative experiences for children, young people, families, schools, and communities will be significantly improved.”

The Music Hub will be based in Lewes and there will be no significant changes to the service during the transfer.

Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival also took over Brighton & Hove Music & Arts from the city council in 2017.

Head of the service, Peter Chivers, said: “Music has the potential to transform young people’s lives, improving skills and social development.”
