Coral reef and the jungle await Littlehampton Academy’s band of explorers

JUNGLE training in the rainforest of Honduras and scuba diving on a coral reef off the Caribbean coast are among the adventures a group of Littlehampton Academy students can look forward to on an expedition next year.

Ten students and geography teacher Simon Smith will be travelling to the central American country to take part in Operation Wallacea, a biological and social science project operating in various remote locations around the world.

Members of the Academy group need to raise almost £2,000 each for their trip and are planning money-spinning efforts such as car washing, supermarket bag packing and sales stalls at local events.

They are also appealing for donations, and visited Littlehampton Rotary Club’s meeting at the Vardar Restaurant to give a presentation about the expedition.

Rotarian Christine Moss thanked them for the informative talk. She pledged £200 towards a scientific instrument for use by the group in Honduras and by other academy students in years to come.

Club president Mike Findlay said: “It has been a pleasure to welcome such an eloquent speaker as Simon Smith and the way the students have presented themselves is a credit to the academy”.

Donations or sponsorship for the expedition can be made by contacting Sara Hopkins at the academy, telephone 01903 711148.
