Focus donates gardening equipment to Angmering School

FROM plot to pot is the aim of a drive to encourage more students to grow fruit and vegetables at The Angmering School, and then cook the harvest.

The campaign was given a big boost by Focus, whose Rustington store has donated hundreds of plants and other gardening supplies.

The DIY/gardening chain’s own efforts to encourage more people to grown their own food chimes in with the encouragement the school is giving to students in its Lavinia Norfolk Centre for those with special needs.

Michael Griffiths, a learning support assistant on the Down’s syndrome team at the centre, approached Focus for a possible donation, and was delighted with the response.

“They have given us tomatoes, chillis, herbs, peppers, carrots, new potatoes, strawberries, rhubarb and beetroot, as well as compost, topsoil and fertiliser,” said Michael, who also runs a gardening club for all the school’s students.

“It must be worth at least £150 and and we are very, very grateful to Focus for the amount of plants and other supplies they have given us – I was astounded when I saw how much it was.”

Michael particularly thanked Rustington Focus customer services manager Dave Gill and John Clapp, from the school’s site team, for helping to clear the ground for the students’ garden.

He is also grateful to Manor Nurseries, Angmering, for giving plants, too.

As well as asking for help from businesses, Michael is appealing for donations of unwanted, good-quality tools and surplus plants from generous gardeners.
