St Andrew’s Prep, in Meads Street, has announced Tom Gregory will become the next headmaster later this year, following on from Gareth Jones.
Mr Gregory started off in London working as an investment banking but after 10 years he moved into teaching.
Over the last 13 years he has been in various senior roles including deputy head at Vinehall in Robertsbridge and his current position as the deputy head at Ashfold School in Kent.
Mr Gregory actually attended St Andrew’s Prep and Eastbourne College as a student.
He will be joined by his wife Esther and their two children. Mrs Gregory has a long standing 23-year teaching career too.
Mr Gregory will be working closely with Mr Jones to ensure a smooth transition in September.
He said, “I am both delighted and honoured to be the next Head at St Andrew’s Prep. It is a school with an outstanding reputation and its recent developments have shown it to be both innovative and forward thinking.
“The school today is much changed from the school I attended but remains firmly the same with regards to its ethos. The pride and passion for the school was clear to see from all staff and pupils that I met, something I share completely.
“Esther and I are excited to be joining the school community and I look forward to working with staff, pupils and parents to shape the exciting future of the school.”
Mr Gregory will report to Tom Lawson, headmaster at Eastbourne College who said, “I have known Tom Gregory for some time as an impressive and high-flying senior prep school figure, known for his hard work and attention to detail.
“His thoughtful, human approach to bringing out the best in young people chimes with the values of St Andrew’s Prep and the charity as a whole. He has a deep and abiding love for both schools as well as the wide experience needed to take a fresh look at the opportunities and challenges of the coming years.
“I have no doubt that under Tom and Esther’s care, the pupils, staff and parents will see St Andrew’s Prep build on its great strengths and move to the next level. I cannot wait to welcome them to our community.”
