Hundreds of children from Shakespeare Chapter at The Littlehampton Academy took part in the charity week – which finished with a fête on Friday (May 9) – raising almost £1,200 for the air ambulance service.

Students from years-eight to 11 joined in with a range of wacky fundraising ideas from a fancy dress day and splat the rat session to a beat the goalie.

Unsurprisingly, the most popular attraction at the week-long event proved to be the soak the teacher stall, where students had the chance to pour a bucket of water over their favourite teacher’s head.

Heather French, Shakespeare Chapter’s manager, said the charity week had been a fantastic success and managed to beat last year’s impressive total.

Ms French said: “The most popular stall was arguably the soak the teacher one.

“We are pleased to announce we raised a whopping £1,157 in total from the week, beating last year’s amount of £822.”

Lynne Mitchell, Sussex Air Ambulance’s director of income generation, praised the school for its fantastic donation.

She said: “As a charity, we rely almost entirely on public donations so we are enormously grateful to The Littlehampton Academy for its support.”

The service has attended 821 call-outs this year with each mission costing about £2,500.

Ms French wished to thank all the businesses which gave donations to support the raffle.
