Nine schools in Brighton and Hove with an outstanding Ofsted rating

We took a look at all the schools in the Brighton and Hove and Portslade area that had the top ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating.

Here are nine schools all thought to be among the top schools in the country by inspectors.

Downs View Special School in Warren Road, Brighton, was last inspected in 2020. The last Ofsted report said: "This is an extremely friendly and welcoming school where pupils feel happy and safe."

West Hove Infant School in Portland Road, Hove, was last inspected in 2013 when inspectors said: "Pupils make outstanding progress throughout the school and at the end of Year 2 reach above-average levels of attainment in reading, writing and mathematics."

Hill Park School, in Foredown Road, Portslade, is a community special school and was rated outstanding after a full inspection in 2014 and a short inspection in 2019. Inspectors said it was an 'outstanding school where pupils are happy, feel safe and make rapid progress. They feel valued and cared for'.

Downs Junior School in Rugby Road, Brighton, was last inspected in 2011, after which inspectors said: "This is an outstanding school. The senior leadership team has ensured that an impressive curriculum and good teaching continue to raise attainment."

Stanford Infant School in Highcroft Villas, Hove, was rated outstanding at its last inspection in 2007, and it sustained the rating at an interim assessment in 2010. Inspectors said: "Stanford Infant School is a vibrant and joyous place to learn; it provides an outstanding education."

St Luke's Primary School in Queens Park Rise, Brighton, was inspected in 2013 when inspectors said: " The headteacher, other leaders and governors show exceptionally strong leadership and have very high expectations of pupils and teachers.
