Like other students across the country, they were ready to sit their exams in May, but the coronavirus pandemic forced them to be cancelled.

But despite this, the secondary school said the students have achieved a strong set of grades.

“Over the last few months, our students have been so resilient and coped admirably with such adversity,” said headteacher Anna Robinson.

“They were ready and willing to take their exams in May and would have achieved grades very like those that they have today.

“We know this because over the last few years, our predictions of students’ final results at A Level and GCSE have become extremely accurate.

“Our phenomenal students deserve their success.”

For the vast majority of students, the school said they have been successful with securing the progression pathway of their choice, be that further education, employment and training.

Ms Robinson commented: “Our Year 13 cohort have been rewarded with a particularly strong set of grades, which will enable them to progress onto some very impressive and fully deserved futures.

“Today, we are so proud of all of them and the hard work that they have put in consistently over the time that they were with us.

“Bearing in mind the unparalleled circumstances associated with Thursday morning (August 13), including the ‘triple lock’ adaptations to the process of the awarding of grades by the government over the last 48 hours, we are supporting those of our students who require it with their options regarding their onward progression over the coming days, as you would expect.

“Many of our Year 13s however are absolutely delighted with their outcomes and progression routes.

“On behalf of us all at Beacon Academy, we once again want to congratulate our students and celebrate all of the work that they have done independently and with the relentless support of our staff and their parents and carers.

“We look forward to staying in touch with as many of them as possible and of course, seeing what they do in the future.”
