She added: “Having a male teacher is such a huge asset to our school.

“Mr Saxton is a wonderful role model for our children and now that he is deputy head this positive impact can only grow.”

As they got used to Mr Saxton in his new role, the children were also able to explore a new outdoor activity trail.

A school spokesman said: “Children at the school are actively encouraged to make use of the imaginative outdoor space on offer and the new trail provides even more opportunities for the children to challenge themselves.

“The whole school has been enjoying the many features of the trail with even the youngest children from the new cohort of Early Years’ getting to grips with everything it has to offer.”
