Pupils pull together to support Pudsey

Pupils and staff at Summerlea Community Primary School slipped into wacky attire to celebrate this years Children In Need bonanzaD14472064a

School children, teachers and parents at primary schools in Littlehampton and Rustington united to celebrate the annual cash builder last week, which raised £36.2m nationally.

At Littlehampton’s River Beach Primary School, in York Road, youngsters spent the whole day building their own version of the Children In Need’s mascot, Pudsey using loose change.

Sue Bingham, the school’s champion for pupil voice, helped organise the event and said she was thrilled with the amount raised during the day and throughout the week.

“I think people are always overwhelmed by how generous parents and pupils are,” she said.

“A lot of people aren’t wealthy so I think the generosity shown from everyone – from the little children to the older ones, has been really full on. It’s been incredible.”

Superheroes filled the halls of Summerlea Community Primary School, in Windsor Drive, Rustington.

Children dressed as everything from Superman and Captain America while staff donned their out super outfits, with the school’s office staff transforming into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the executive head teacher, Brian Ball, becoming Mr Incredible for the day.

Katrina Wright, finance assistant at Summerlea, said the day was run by the school’s pupil council, who managed to raise £164 by selling Children In Need goodies. The school’s total was an impressive £423.18.

Mrs Wright said: “It’s been a great chance for pupils to help some needy children.”
