Review into Storrington and Steyning schooling

In a statement released on Friday (January 25) the county council says there has been call from people in the Storrington area to review the existing schooling in the area.

As a result the cabinet member for education and schools, Peter Griffiths is now looking into the current and future capacities of all the schools in Storrington and Steyning.

A spokesman said: “West Sussex County Council has been approached by some members of the Storrington locality, including parents, heads and chairs of governors, with a request to consider a review of the education provision within the area, as well as a potential change to the age of transfer within the Storrington group of schools.

“Schools have voiced their support for the consideration of a new pattern of education in the area.

“Heads and governor representatives from schools have met with the cabinet member for Education and Schools, Peter Griffiths, as well as West Sussex County Council officers, to share their thoughts and ideas as how to sustain and enhance the good quality provision already within the area.

“The cabinet member has now called for further data including future pupil numbers, school capacities and information on the impact that change, particularly to the age of transfer, could have on the outcomes for all young people.

“With this information to hand he will be able to fully consider the implications of any change, including affordability of the necessary capital funding in the tough economic climate. The intention of any proposal would be to enhance the existing provision within the area.

“During spring 2013, the Cabinet Member expects to be in a position to provide a further statement.”
