Rose Green children take on Summer Reading Challenge

PUPILS from a Rose Green school have taken up the challenge to become bookworms.

With the long summer break fast approaching, the Summer Reading Challenge – an annual event aimed at getting children reading was launched at Rose Green Junior School.

Schools minister and MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Nick Gibb was at the Rayleigh Road school.

He said: “Reading is vitally important for children.

“Studies have shown that children who read for 30 minutes per day will by the time they are 15 have acquired the equivalent of an extra year at school without having actually been to school.

“I have been very impressed with the children at Rose Green. The game they played during the assembly where they had to guess which books the quotes belonged to was great.”

The fun starts on July 14 – visit www.westsussex.gov.uk/readingchallenge.
