Rustington pupils swap uniforms for jogging bottoms to help charities

Schoolchildren in Rustington pushed themselves to the limit doing their bit to support the RNLI and Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.

Around 60 pupils from Georgian Gardens Primary School took part in an afternoon of running inside their school’s hall, in Guildford Road, raising £500 for Littlehampton’s RNLI lifeboat station and a further £100 for the Poling-based children’s hospice.

And on Thursday (October 18), the youngsters handed over the £500 to a welcoming team of RNLI volunteers, during a class outing to the lifeboat station, in Fisherman’s Quay.

Year-four teacher Anne Lawrence praised the band of hardy children saying that staff at the school had never anticipated they would raise such an impressive sum

“We were totally gobsmacked by it,” she admitted.

“We never thought they would raise anywhere near that. It totally exceeded our expectations.

“It’s a brilliant amount going to some of the area’s vital good causes and I think the children really understand that.”

A spokesman for the RNLI was “thrilled” with the donation and praised the pupils.
