Council planners approved proposals last week to install more than 700 solar panels at Brinsbury College, part of the Chichester College Group, in Pulborough.

The college hopes that the photovoltaic panels will be in operation by early autumn with the campus expected to use around 95 per cent of the energy generated.

A total of 736 panels will be fitted, covering a 1,204sqm surface area. They should produce around 191,393 KWh per year, which is about the equivalent of the energy consumed by 51 houses each year on average.

It is also predicted that it will reduce CO2 emissions by around 67 tonnes each year.
